Volunteering for the GDRA!

"I have been so fortunate to be connected to the GDRA team. As part of the steering committee I have worked with brilliant researchers and practitioners in the development of this effort. GDRA has also been a great partner for Mahila Partnership in our disaster resilience work with communities in the US. " - Angela Devlen, Mahila Partnership Tampa, FL

"What a treat it is to work with wonderful GDRA volunteers who so generously share their time, passion and ideas–huge thanks to you all!"Elaine Enarson, Lyons Colorado

"Volunteering for the GDRA as a member of the steering committee, organizing and participating in workshops, and giving talks on behalf of the GDRA has been immensely rewarding. I am also grateful for the lasting relationships that I have built with Allies such as the Mahila Partnership, which provide me with opportunities to contribute to the empowerment of women and children in local communities across the U.S."Bill Lovekamp, Eastern Illinois University

"Through my volunteer role as a co-chair for the student paper competition (2010 and 2011), I have gained professional benefits such as the opportunity to network, seek out mentorship, and explore my academic interests. In addition, my volunteer efforts have granted me a leadership role within the gender and disaster community. I urge practitioners and academics to become active members and share their strengths with GDRA."Adelle Monteblanco, CU Boulder

"GDRA has helped me connect with academics and practitioners working in the fields of gender-based violence, gender and disasters, and women's issues in emergency medical relief. I have not only formed working research-based relationships, but friendships and cooperative partnerships with many of the GDRA members." – Roxane Richter, President-World Missions Possible Houston, TX

“Volunteering for USGDRA has been a fun and rewarding experience. It has provided me the opportunity to work with some amazing people, build my knowledge about website management, and stay connected with the disaster community. I highly recommend volunteering to graduate students and anyone else who wants to further their career or learn more about gender and disasters.”Jennifer Tobin-Gurley, Colorado State University
